After digging all over for how to deal with Sprint I found out about the whole concept of a ‘material change’. Basically the contract I signed when I started with Sprint says that they reserve the right to make changes to their terms of service but when they make a ‘material change’ the customer has 30 days to terminate their contract with no early termination fee.

Well as of January 1st 2008 Sprint has had to change their fees. Are discontinuing FPCR, Federal E999 and Federal WLNP Surcharges and introducing “Administrative” and “Regulartory Charges”. So I fire up an email to ecare@cc.sprintpcs.com and ecare1@cc.sprintpcs.com telling them I’m not happy with the changes to the fees and that it constitutes a ‘material change’ and as such I need to exercise my option to terminate my contract with no early termination fees.

Poof, within an hour I get an email back that states..

Customers who experience an overall increase in surcharges and fees since 12/31/07 are eligible for a waiver of the Early Termination Fee if they choose to cancel service with Sprint. Please write back to me once the new invoice is generated. If there will be any difference in the taxes, you may get your services canceled within 30 days of the generation of invoice; early termination fee will not be billed.

Well see what happens next. I wonder if I have a new invoice already out there on the Sprint site?
