Jing - Easy Screen Capture Sharing

The Need

Many times I have things on my screen that I want to share with someone else either by email or IM. It’s the classic, “Hey, look at this.” thing. There are a million screen shot tools out there but very few that focus specifically on this type of work flow. That is where Jing comes in.

The Review

Jing is from TechSmith, the company behind SagIt and Camtasia so you know this is image capture done right. The interface is very ‘transparent’. It’s just something that’s there when you want it and gone when you don’t. The small yellow semi-circle grows three little arms when you roll over it, each clutching a smaller orb. The three buttons are Capture, History, and More. You can grab anything you see and immediately/automatically upload it to either their site (screencast.com), Flickr, or your own FTP. The url of that file is then placed on your clipboard. From there you can paste the url into an IM message, or email, or even a blog post like this one right here.

Best of all Jing is free.
