MacBook Pro Screen Bright Spot

Bright spot angle oneBright spot angle twoMy lovely MacBook Pro has a bright spot in it’s screen. I say ‘in’ because it doesn’t look like it’s on the screen but behind it. It’s a fuzzy dash of brightness seen in these photos, just under the cross hair.

When you move from one side to another it looks like it moves slightly, again making me think it’s behind the screen. It’s annoying as hell since anything with a white or pale fill gains this bright, fuzzy, dash.

I guess I’ll have to take it into the Apple store and have it looked at. Better back up all my crap beforehand. Not fun.

Mona!

monaWe have a new member of the family! Mona is a five month old Jack Russell / Welsh Terrier ‘hybrid’. She’s the sweetest dog I’ve ever met. We didn’t want a large dog and didn’t want one that was to hyper either.

She’s very chill and will just sit on your lap and hang out. She’s playful but not a spaz like many Jack Russells I’ve met. Now if I can just keep the boy from driving her crazy.

The Need

Sometimes I just don’t want my Mac to go to sleep or even dim it’s screen.

The Review

Dead simple and easy this puts a little Zzz. icon in your system menu at the top of your screen. When you don’t want your Mac to go to sleep just click the icon and it will show itself crossed out. When you don’t care if your Mac goes to sleep click it again and wa-la.

Switching to chopsticks

chopsticksI was watching Pop Siren the other day and there was a little life hacker tip for eating snacks without greasing up your mouse and keyboarding fingers. Chopsticks. I remembered I had a couple nice sets of chopsticks my Mom got for me when she was in Osaka and it worked like a charm.

As I’m sitting there, coding my wife’s online store and munching away on a bag of buffalo flavored pretzels, I started to think of the forks or spoons that I use and throw out at work. I give them a wash and use them a couple times before I throw them away but… chopsticks. Chopsticks are a cinch to clean and it even takes less water and soap to clean them.

So I’m switching to using chopsticks. I’m starting at work but the more I use them the more I think I will adopt them as my personal eating utensils all the time. Thinking of the water, heating energy, and soap I’d be saving by switching myself to chopsticks, just me and my little bit, makes me feel better. Plus the vision of me, joe-average-white-guy eating some Mexican dish with chopsticks has been enough to make people ask what I’m doing. So far everyone’s reaction is “Huh… I never really thought of it that way.”

Giving people that little moment to look at some part of their daily behavior with a new perspective is another perk.

Will The Film Live Up To It’s Trailer?

I really want to see IronMan but I have to stop watching the trailers because they keep coming out with more and more of them and each one shows more and more of the film. This is one of those cases where I don’t know if it will be worth going to see the movie…. just to get all the dialog. Hell, it looks like all the cool parts are in the trailer.
